As the Head of School, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our vibrant community at Libertas Academy. We are dedicated to providing a classical education rooted in Christian values, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically, spiritually, and physically.

At Libertas Academy, we believe in training the “whole child” - mind, body, and soul. Our rigorous academic programs are designed to challenge students, encouraging critical thinking and a love of learning that will last a lifetime. From our dedicated teachers to our engaging curriculum, we strive to cultivate not only knowledgeable scholars but also compassionate leaders.

In addition to our academic pursuits, we take great pride in our growing athletics program. We understand the importance of physical education and teamwork, and we provide a variety of opportunities for students to develop their skills, compete, and build lasting friendships. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom and the playing field, instilling in our students a sense of discipline, perseverance, and integrity.

Our Core Values

At Libertas Academy, our core values reflect our commitment to Christ, classical Christian education, and the formation of students as whole persons created in the image of God. These values are rooted in Scripture and shape everything we do.

Christ-Centered Living

We pursue all things in joyful submission to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus…” —Colossians 3:17

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.” —Romans 11:36

Our Story

Because Christian education contributes directly to the advancement of God's kingdom, it is the privilege not only of the parents but also of their Christian communities to undergird, pray for, work for, and support Christian family-based education.

-Bylaws, Article II, Christian Family Learning Center (1991)

More than thirty years ago, a group of parents in the heart of California’s Gold Country shared a desire for a Christ-centered educational community for their children. In 1991, those families prayerfully stepped out in faith on what they called a “one-year experiment,” trusting God to lead wherever He desired.

That experiment became the Christian Family Learning Center (CFLC), a 501(c)(3) association serving families in Angels Camp and the surrounding region. For the next 28 years, CFLC provided Christian education for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.

In 2017, the Board of Directors and school leadership began exploring the addition of a high school program. At the same time, they were developing a deeper understanding of classical Christian education and became convinced that its emphasis on truth, goodness, beauty, wisdom, and the formation of the whole person offered a compelling model for the school’s future.

In 2018, CFLC launched another “one-year experiment”: a classical Christian high school called Libertas Academy. Although it shared the CFLC campus, the new program initially operated with its own identity while leadership evaluated the need for and sustainability of a classical Christian high school in the community.

The response was encouraging. By 2019, school leadership determined not only that classical Christian education should remain central to the high school, but that its philosophy and methods should shape the education of students throughout the entire school. CFLC and Libertas Academy were brought together under one name, Libertas Academy, A Christian Family Learning Center, and specialists in classical education helped guide the school’s transition into a unified classical Christian program serving students from the earliest grades through high school.

In 2026, after several years of operating as a TK–12 school, Libertas Academy made the difficult decision to discontinue its high school program and return its focus to serving students in TK through eighth grade. While the grade levels we serve have changed over the years, our commitment to classical Christian education has not. The years in which Libertas operated a high school strengthened and refined the educational philosophy that now shapes every grade at our school.

Throughout more than three decades of growth, experimentation, and change, the foundation laid by CFLC’s founders has remained constant:

“God by His Holy Word reveals Himself; renews man's understanding of God, of man himself, of his fellowman, and of the world; directs man in all his relationships and activities; and therefore guides His people also in the education of their children.” Bylaws, Article II, Christian Family Learning Center, 1991

At Libertas Academy, we recognize that parents bear the primary responsibility for the education and formation of their children according to Scripture. It is our privilege to come alongside families in that calling, providing a distinctly Christian, classical education designed to cultivate students who know truth, pursue wisdom, love what is good and beautiful, and faithfully use their lives in service to Christ.

We remain grateful for the faith of the families who began a “one-year experiment” in 1991—and for God’s faithfulness through every chapter since.

Our Name

Libertas (latin) n: "liberty" and "freedom"

Our name, Libertas Academy, is not only a description of "how" we deliver the services we provide (classical, Christian education), but the "why," as well; true liberty is found in salvation through Jesus Christ.
